6.9 magnitude earthquake strikes Northern Chile
A 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck northern Chile's Atacama Desert region, about 31 kilometers from Calama, at a depth of 100 kilometers. The United States Geological Survey reported the event, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage. Chile's National Disaster Prevention and Response Service confirmed no tsunami threat, and tremors were felt in several regions.
