Wild animals kill 239 livestock in Mustang’s three local units

Part of: Rhino Found Dead in Kawasoti Maize Field; Cause Under Investigation

Wild animals have killed 239 livestock in three local units of Mustang over the past four years, according to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP). Farmers in Baragung Muktikshetra, Gharapajhong, and Thasang have lost yaks, chauris, sheep, goats, mules, and horses to attacks by snow leopards, leopards, and wolves. ACAP has provided NPR 2.52 million in compensation relief to affected farmers. Climate change is also contributing to the crisis by drying up water sources and affecting grass growth, leading wild animals to descend closer to human settlements.
