Govt’s outstanding revenue dues surpass Rs 275 billion: Auditor General

The government's outstanding revenue dues have surpassed Rs 275 billion by the end of the fiscal year 2024/25, according to the 63rd annual report from the Office of the Auditor General. Income tax constitutes the largest portion of these unpaid dues, amounting to Rs 219.11 billion, followed by VAT and excise duty. Taxpayers have filed appeals over disputes involving Rs 180.10 billion of the total outstanding amount, and the Ministry of Finance has been criticized for failing to effectively recover undisputed arrears.
