Afghanistan launches construction of 200-mln-USD iron smelting plant

Construction has begun on a 200-million-U.S.-dollar iron smelting plant in Logar province, Afghanistan, aiming for economic independence and self-sufficiency. The privately funded facility is expected to create 1,000 direct jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs, with completion anticipated within four years. Afghanistan has reportedly achieved full self-sufficiency in iron smelting, with 45 plants operational and over 500 million dollars invested in the sector.
