Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle is set to present Nepal's budget for the upcoming Fiscal Year 2026/27 at a joint session of Parliament. The budget prioritizes good governance, economic reform, connectivity, human capital development, and enhancing soft power, aiming to implement election promises of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. Key focuses include improving digital public service delivery, freeing public institutions from unlawful capture, and making investigations into financial crimes more result-oriented. The budget ceiling is set at Rs. 1890 billion, lower than the previous fiscal year, with potential increases in government employee salaries and income tax thresholds. The Finance Ministry has indicated the budget drafting is in its final stages, and Dr. Wagle has briefed President Ramchandra Paudel on the annual estimates.
