Woman Dies After Alcohol Dispute in Jhapa; Man Arrested

A 29-year-old woman, Kajal Basnet (Suwedi), died in Jhapa district after a dispute involving alcohol consumption escalated into a physical altercation. Police allege that Kiran Gautam pushed Basnet, causing her to fall and sustain fatal head injuries. Gautam was arrested at the scene and is being investigated under homicide provisions.

  • The incident occurred on Monday night near AIMS Secondary Boarding School in Arjundhara Municipality–8, Kusalchowk.
  • Basnet was initially taken to Shankar Hospital, then B&C Hospital in Birtamode, and finally referred to Provincial Mechi Hospital in Bhadrapur, where she passed away on Tuesday morning.
  • Kiran Gautam, 24, of Arjundhara–5, Kanchanbari, was apprehended immediately following the incident.
  • The victim's sister, Pratima Bhattarai, filed a formal complaint, and Gautam has been remanded for five days for further investigation.
  • Authorities noted that the victim's husband is currently working in Dubai.
