Government Forms Inquiry Committee on Music Royalty and Copyright Issues

The government has established a five-member inquiry committee to investigate issues related to music royalty, copyright, and intellectual property. Headed by Laxman Bidari, the committee was formed by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation following attention from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. It is tasked with submitting recommendations within 10 days.

  • The committee will study intellectual property theft, copyright infringement, unauthorized use, and digital and physical media issues affecting creators and rights holders.
  • The committee includes representatives from the Department of Information and Broadcasting, Nepal Copyright Office, and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.
  • Nirmala Neupane will serve as the Member Secretary for the committee.
  • The formation of the committee was a ministerial decision made on Thursday.
