Nepal's Road Network Expands to 104,906 Km, Economic Survey Reveals

Pokhara Metropolitan City has removed 105 structures, both private and institutional, from the Phirke River banks as part of an ongoing encroachment removal campaign. The operation, which began on June 10, utilizes bulldozers and involves police and technical staff to clear structures built on the riverbed. The metropolis plans to develop the cleared riverbank into an attractive tourist destination with amenities like cycle tracks and green spaces.

A three-member committee has been formed to investigate allegations of irregularities in the distribution, sale, and compensation processes of land acquired for the Pokhara Bus Park. The committee, chaired by former judge Shankar Raj Baral, will review land transactions and compensation records from the past 51 years. Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhanraj Acharya stated the panel aims to uncover the reality of the issues surrounding the bus park land.

Construction of the Kathmandu–Terai/Madhesh Expressway has reached approximately 48 percent physical progress, but faces significant delays primarily due to an unresolved dispute in the Khokana section. The Nepali Army, managing the project, indicates that the completion deadline of March 2026 is unlikely to be met, with experts suggesting an additional three years may be needed.

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) plans to construct an 11.92 km, 132-kV underground transmission line in central Kathmandu to ensure reliable electricity distribution within the Ring Road area and enhance urban aesthetics. The project, expected to be completed within three years, will connect Balaju Substation to Singha Durbar via Maharajgunj and Ratna Park, and will also include the construction of several new substations.
