Birgunj Customs Reports 15% Import Surge Driven by Petroleum and Iron Goods

Imports through the Birgunj Customs Office have increased by 15% to NPR 794.87 billion in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, a rise of NPR 102.44 billion compared to the previous year. Information Officer Uday Singh Bista stated that the surge is primarily due to increased imports of petroleum products and iron-related goods.

  • Petroleum products worth NPR 181.70 billion were imported, followed by iron and steel items valued at NPR 69.42 billion.
  • Machinery and spare parts totaling NPR 57.66 billion were also imported through the customs point.
  • Crude soybean oil imports amounted to NPR 55.07 billion during the same period.
  • The total value of goods imported in the first 10 months of the previous fiscal year was NPR 692.43 billion.
