The Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) has initiated repair and improvement work on the Chhusang–Patangya trekking route in Upper Mustang to enhance tourist safety and convenience. The project involves local Conservation Area Management Committees working on different sections of the approximately nine-hour trail, aiming for completion within two weeks.

  • The upgrade work, which began on April 28, is being carried out by local committees using human resources and locally made tools.
  • Gabion protection has been installed in some areas, and wooden bridges are being built at vulnerable points along the trail.
  • Additional repair works from Dhye Khola to Tangya have been conducted under the National Employment Program with local workers.
  • The route is frequently damaged by monsoon-induced floods and landslides, necessitating annual maintenance.
  • The expansion of road networks, including the Korala Road and Kaligandaki Corridor, is noted as a factor in the deterioration of traditional trekking trails.
