The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are collaborating on an 'International Marketing Strategy and Five-Year Action Plan (2026-2030)' to shift Nepal's tourism model from mass to high-value, sustainable experiences. This strategy, developed after consulting 135 stakeholders, aims to rebrand Nepal beyond adventure, emphasizing its cultural, spiritual, wellness, and nature offerings, and addressing a lack of coordinated international marketing.

  • The strategy was formulated by the global consulting firm 'Beed' (also referred to as 'B&D') and focuses on market and consumer behavior analysis across six foundational pillars.
  • Officials highlighted the need to strengthen digital marketing, tap into border-town investments, and solidify public-private partnerships to convert Nepal's assets into economic prosperity.
  • The plan seeks to position Nepal as a leading destination for culture, spirituality, wellness, and nature, in addition to adventure tourism.
  • The Department of Tourism is also exploring a 'unique ID' system for foreign tourists to enhance monitoring and management, with the Department of Immigration preparing to register hotels online for better security.
