Industry Minister Gauri Kumari Addresses Tea Export Issues and MRP Confusion

Industry, Commerce and Supplies Minister Gauri Kumari stated that progress has been made in resolving issues hindering Nepali tea exports to India and that confusion surrounding the implementation of Maximum Retail Price (MRP) has been cleared. She informed the House of Representatives that discussions with Indian ministries and the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi are ongoing to facilitate tea exports, and the Department of Customs has been tasked with ensuring imported goods display MRP.

  • The Minister mentioned that 80 to 90 percent of Nepal's tea exports are directed to India, with the country producing 26.1 million kg of tea annually.
  • Efforts are also underway to facilitate the export of tea from Nepal to other countries via India.
  • The Supreme Court's order to relocate industries within 15 km of Lumbini is progressing.
  • The Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection also monitors MRP implementation.
