Road Accident

Nepal Police data for Baisakh (April-May 2026) indicates over-speeding was the primary cause of 1,253 out of 2,294 road accidents nationwide, resulting in 239 fatalities. Drunk driving was also a significant factor, contributing to 112 accidents and 12 deaths, with authorities intensifying enforcement and awareness campaigns.

At least 15 people died and 10 were injured when a truck carrying iron rods and passengers overturned in Bangladesh's Tangail district. Police reported the driver lost control of the vehicle, which was traveling from Dhaka to the northern region with hitchhikers ahead of the Eid al-Adha festival. Many of the victims were daily wage laborers traveling to reunite with their families.

A woman, Phoolkumari Devi, died after her tile-roof house collapsed due to a storm in Rautahat on Monday evening. She was undergoing treatment at Better Nepal Hospital when she succumbed to her injuries. In a separate incident, the district police arrested 10 individuals who were absconding in various cases.

A severe storm in Nijgadh, Bara, resulted in one fatality when a tree branch fell on a tractor, killing Dev Bahadur Aryal. Separately, a pedestrian named Chandeshwor Sah died after being hit by a bus in Jaleshwor, and a body was recovered from the Seti Gorge in Pokhara.

Several road accidents have resulted in fatalities and injuries across various locations, including Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and multiple districts in Nepal. Investigations are underway to determine the causes, with initial findings in Pakistan suggesting driver negligence as a potential factor.
