The government is finalizing a "Sunset Law" to expedite major infrastructure projects by temporarily suspending legal hurdles related to forests, land acquisition, environmental clearance, and procurement for 10 years. The proposed "Development Project Management and Implementation Facilitation Act" aims to accelerate projects like hydropower plants, roads, and industrial zones. A committee led by National Planning Commission expert member Arjunjung Thapa is refining the draft, focusing on identifying and amending or suspending specific obstructive legal provisions. The law seeks to balance development with conservation and streamline processes for both government and private sector projects.
