SC restores old construction standards along riverbanks in Kathmandu Valley

The Supreme Court has reinstated previous building setback standards for construction along rivers and streams in the Kathmandu Valley, allowing construction according to standards set on Mangsir 1, 2065 B.S. The ruling mandates a 20-meter setback from the banks of the Bagmati, Bishnumati, and Manohara rivers, with specific regulations for the Dhobikhola corridor and other rivers like Nakkhu, Balkhu, and Karmanasa. The court also emphasized that no river, stream, or traditional water channel should be encroached upon or covered.
