Over-speed attributes to over 50 percent of road accidents

Over-speeding was the primary cause of road accidents in Nepal during the month of Baisakh (April-May) 2026, contributing to 1,253 out of 2,294 recorded accidents. These accidents resulted in 239 deaths and numerous injuries. Police also recorded 137,094 traffic rule violations, collecting Rs 118.02 million in fines. Two-wheelers were involved in the highest number of accidents, which predominantly occurred between 6:00 pm and midnight.
