Nepal’s customs offices are accused of misclassifying imported vehicles, leading to billions of rupees in lost revenue, according to the 63rd Annual Report of the Office of the Auditor General. Irregularities were found at customs offices in Bhairahawa, Birgunj, Tatopani, and Rasuwagadhi, with customs staff and importers allegedly colluding to evade taxes. The report recommends an investigation and recovery of over Rs 1 billion in lost revenue, particularly highlighting significant losses from electric vehicle imports.
