Prices of essential goods rise across Nepal, government warns against market manipulation

Nepal's Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection reported a modest rise in the prices of essential food items in Baisakh, attributed to fluctuations in petroleum prices and the US dollar exchange rate affecting transportation costs. The department plans to intensify efforts to control inflation by enforcing consumer protection laws, strengthening market monitoring, adopting a zero-tolerance policy against market manipulation, and reducing middlemen. Price variations were noted across six major cities, with significant differences observed in rice, pulses, legumes, cooking oil, dairy products, vegetables, fruits, meat, and fish.
