Nepal's merchandise imports have exceeded Rs 200 billion for two consecutive months, driven by rising international fuel prices, a weakening Nepali rupee, and increased global commodity costs. The import bill reached Rs 1.692 trillion by mid-May, with fuel imports costing Rs 299.50 billion in the first 10 months of the fiscal year. Consumer goods constitute 37.5 percent of imports, while intermediate goods make up 53.3 percent, highlighting the economy's reliance on imported products rather than capital goods.
