Special Court Orders Evidence Hearing in Corruption Cases Against Former Inland Revenue Director General Chudamani Sharma

The Special Court has ordered an evidence hearing in two corruption cases against former Inland Revenue Director General Chudamani Sharma, concerning illegally acquired wealth and revenue leakage. The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed cases alleging corruption in tax waivers by the Tax Settlement Commission, which Sharma was part of. After an initial conviction, the Supreme Court sent the case back for retrial due to questions about a fair hearing and flawed verdicts. A separate case also accuses Sharma of illegally acquiring wealth exceeding his legitimate income.
