South Africa has confirmed 18 deaths due to extreme weather battering multiple provinces since early May, with most fatalities reported in the Western Cape. The government declared the severe weather affecting six provinces a national disaster after heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, and snowfall caused widespread damage. Disaster management teams are assisting affected communities, and in Cape Town, approximately 31,709 dwellings and 103,350 people have been affected.
