More than 17,000 people are under evacuation orders in Southern California as the wind-driven Sandy Fire threatens suburban homes in Simi Valley. The wildfire has consumed over two square miles of dry brush and destroyed at least one home. Firefighters are working to gain control before winds increase, with the fire currently 5% contained. Separately, firefighters are battling a blaze on Santa Rosa Island, which has destroyed a cabin and forced the evacuation of park employees.
