In Singha Devi, Morang, Narayan Rai initiated a commercial tea cultivation enterprise about three decades ago, revitalizing a village previously marked by migration due to lack of development. Despite initial skepticism, his efforts, supported by the Tea Development Board, led to the establishment of the Matribhumi Tea Estate. After Narayan's passing, his wife Bina Khajum Rai took over, transforming the estate into a commercial success and diversifying into agriculture and homestay operations, creating employment and contributing to the local economy.
