Nepal has incurred significant revenue losses from electric vehicle imports as importers allegedly understated peak motor power to benefit from lower customs and excise duties. The Office of the Auditor General reported that customs offices at Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani alone under-collected Rs 2.50 billion. The Auditor General has directed an investigation and recovery of unpaid taxes, recommending future assessments be based on official manufacturer specifications and dynamometer testing.
