Nepal's public debt surged by over Rs. 300 billion in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, reaching Rs. 2,975.04 billion by mid-May 2026. This increase includes Rs. 113 billion in domestic debt and Rs. 187.99 billion in external debt, with currency depreciation alone adding Rs. 167.75 billion. The government has spent Rs. 292.52 billion on debt servicing, utilizing 71.17 percent of its allocated budget.
