Kathmandu Metropolitan City has partnered with private school organizations, PABSON and NPABSON, to provide full residential scholarships for children displaced from unauthorized riverside structures. These children, currently housed in a holding center in Kirtipur, will receive education, accommodation, and hostel facilities up to the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) level. This initiative aims to integrate children from displaced families into the mainstream education system.

  • The agreement ensures that concerned schools will cover all educational, accommodation, and hostel expenses for the selected children.
  • Out of approximately 300 families at the holding center, 41 children have already been admitted to Janajagriti Secondary School in Balkhu.
  • Another 20 children over 10 years old have agreed to attend private schools with residential facilities, with 13 already handed over to their respective schools.
  • The initiative targets children whose families were displaced due to the removal of unauthorized structures along riverbanks.
  • Kathmandu Metropolitan City's Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol emphasized that no child should be denied their fundamental right to education.
