An organic fertilizer and biogas plant in Khotang, established five years ago with an investment of approximately Rs 50 million, remains inactive, disappointing local residents. The facility, intended to process waste from Diktel Bazaar and generate fertilizer and biogas, has been left abandoned despite its inauguration by former Province No. 1 Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai.

  • The plant, located in Solma, Okharbote at Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality-2, was set up with federal government subsidies and local municipality investment.
  • It was inaugurated in 2077 BS with the goal of becoming an 'Organic Municipality' and reducing chemical fertilizer dependence.
  • The facility has the capacity to produce 1,000 kg of fertilizer per hour and was also designed to produce CNG gas from waste.
  • Locals are expressing frustration on social media over the prolonged inactivity and the potential waste of public funds.
  • The municipality had envisioned the project as both an environmental initiative and a source of internal revenue.
