Auditor General directs Nepal Mountaineering Association to deposit royalty funds on time

The Office of the Auditor General has urged the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) to deposit collected mountaineering royalties into the Federal Divisible Fund and inform the Ministry of Tourism on time. The association has reportedly delayed depositing Rs 96.3 million in royalties collected from 27 mountain peaks.

  • The 63rd Annual Report by the Auditor General's Office states that mountaineering royalties are required by law to be deposited in the Federal Divisible Fund for distribution among federal, provincial, and local governments.
  • The NMA is responsible for collecting royalties from 27 mountain peaks below 6,000 meters and has collected Rs 122 million to date.
  • The Auditor General has recommended that the association recover the remaining dues and ensure timely deposit of all royalty collections.
  • The NMA's responsibility for collecting royalties from these peaks was extended for another five years on Kartik 23, 2080.
