The Supreme Court has issued an interim order preventing the government from collecting customs duty on daily consumer goods valued over Rs 100 brought across the Nepal-India border. A joint bench directed the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Finance, and other authorities not to enforce the disputed provision until further notice. This order follows a writ petition challenging the Finance Ministry's decision to impose customs duty on goods exceeding Rs 100, which was argued to be inconsistent with the Customs Act, 2081.
