Murals commissioned by Kathmandu Metropolitan City at a cost of millions are deteriorating due to neglect and lack of maintenance. Public spaces, including areas from Maitighar to Babarmahal and the international airport, feature artworks now fading, peeling, or damaged by dust, spitting, and vandalism. Both the Metropolitan City and the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts claim the other is responsible for preservation, leading to a lack of accountability and plans for further mural creation being halted.
