Pokhara begins demolition drive on Firkekhola encroachments

Pokhara Metropolitan City began demolishing illegal structures encroaching on the Firkekhola area on Sunday, implementing a Supreme Court order to protect the Phewa Lake source river. A survey in August 2023 identified over 160 illegal structures, including private houses, schools, community buildings, and an Armed Police Force training centre. The demolition commenced after structures were not voluntarily removed following a public notice.
