Photo · english.nepalnews.com

Continuous rainfall in Panchthar has triggered severe floods and landslides, displacing four families and damaging critical infrastructure including roads, bridges, and hydropower projects. The disaster has crippled regional connectivity, completely halting traffic on key sections of the Mid-Hill Highway and impacting multiple hydropower projects. Authorities are working to assess the full extent of the damage, which also includes submerged agricultural land and damaged drinking water schemes.

  • Four families have been displaced from Yangwarak Rural Municipality-1 due to landslides, with 15 other homes threatened.
  • Two under-construction road bridges over the Mewa Khola and Tamor River, along with multiple suspension bridges, were washed away, disrupting traffic.
  • The Mewa Khola, Ingwa Khola, and Arun Kabeli hydropower projects sustained damage from the floodwaters.
  • Significant damage has also been reported to local cardamom plantations, fertile agricultural land, and vital drinking water and irrigation schemes across the district.
  • Landslides have obstructed road sections, including the Chyangthapu–Tharpu road and the Oyam-Chiwabhanjyang section of the Mid-Hilly Highway.
